There is a forecast that the weekly sales of homes in Manteca will reach $59M in 1999
Ironically, retail construction is the only bright spot in Manteca's revenue outlook despite its projected deficit of more than $113 million for the fiscal year beginning July 1. Over last year, retail sales revenue declined by 12 percent.

It is projected that Manteca home sales in 1999 will average $59 million a week, shattering last year's record of $2392 million. Selling prices in the median range were $185700 and $185800, respectively.
Despite a projected deficit in excess of $113 million this fiscal year, Retail Construction is the only bright spot in the revenue outlook for the City of Manteca. There was a 12 percent drop in retail sales revenues over last year.

The company has unveiled plans to construct a huge truck terminal on the south side of Interstate 205, east of the MacArthur Road exit, ending speculation that it might build there. The firm had proposed building a 230-dock distribution terminal near Main Street south of the Manteca Bypass in October.

It will be two new faces behind the table when the Planning Commission meets for the first time in 1979 next Tuesday. City Council voted Monday to name Tim Hunter, an 11-year Manteca resident, and Alfonso Duran, a 52-year resident.

There are some concerns and some wonders surrounding the educational picture for Manteca Unified School District for the upcoming months in light of the uncertainty in the past year. The school district's recently resigned superintendent, John Wilber, will continue to lead the educational vessel through June 30.

On Tuesday morning, the Manteca District Chamber of Commerce elected John Iribarren, district manager for Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Among those elected were John Burnett, city attorney, and Ted Poulos, pharmacy owner, vice-presidents, and John Gatto, bank employee, re-elected treasurer.

After 16 candidates applied, Henry Hubbart was selected as Manteca's new daytime policeman. A city council interview committee that interviewed him personally last week recommended his hiring on Monday night.

During the city council meeting Tuesday night, Mario DePaoli was awarded a contract for hauling away city garbage, drafted by City Attorney J. R. Scott. October 3 marks the effective date of the 10-year contract. In the contract, DiPaoli has the exclusive right to collect garbage in the city.

A levee could be built to protect the farmland south of Manteca, against flood waters look exceedingly bright, according to a report made by E. C. Woodruff and Guss Schmiedt at a meeting of the directors of the local chamber of commerce Tuesday night. A previous meeting of the Presidential Committee appointed E. C. Woodruff, W. J. Woodward, and E. E. Douglass to assist in any way possible.
A rapid spread of influenza has led to drastic measures by the city trustees. The body passed an ordinance Monday night following a meeting of City Attorney J. R. Scott. There is a restriction on all gatherings, such as those at churches, lodges, pool rooms, or public sites, until the city health board approves them with the consent of the city's physicians.
